Trump receives huge ovation during UFC clash

Fans cheered, waved flags and chanted “USA” as former president Donald Trump arrived at UFC 264 to watch the main event, the clash between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.

Mr Trump came through the fighter tunnel just prior to the welterweight fight between Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson

The enormous ovation from the crowd showed the former president’s popularity with large swathes of the American electorate.

The 45th president then travelled to Dallas, Texas, to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference which sparked conjecture he is running for the White House again.

The CPAC event is often used as a springboard for politicians who have aspirations to run as a candidate for the upcoming Republican presidential candidates.

However, a swathe of major polls have indicated that should Mr Trump run again, he will easily win the Republican nomination to run as the party’s presidential candidate in 2024.

In a straw poll taken at the latest CPAC, 70 per cent of attendees nominated Mr Trump as their preferred presidential candidate, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the next best at 21 per cent support.
